It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of John Long’s passing. He was a man whose decades of service, leadership and unwavering commitment helped shape the very foundation and future of our organization.
Funeral details are as follows:
- Friday, March 20th | Public viewing 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following.

John’s service with Rubber Division, ACS began in 1986, and for nearly four decades he was a steady presence and trusted voice within our community. His leadership as Division Chair in 1995, service on numerous committees over the years, prestigious achievement of ACS Fellow designation and his remarkable 26-year tenure as ACS Councilor spanning from 1997 through 2024 demonstrated both his dedication and impact.
John held the distinction of being the longest-standing active member of Rubber Division, ACS, with more than 50 years of membership but his legacy goes far beyond longevity. Throughout his service, John championed meaningful projects, guided critical decisions, and inspired countless members through his integrity, wisdom and passion for advancing the Division’s mission.
Whether serving on the Executive Committee, steering strategic initiatives or mentoring emerging leaders, John always led with courage, conviction and a clear sense of purpose. He was admired not only for his visionary leadership but also for his genuine care for the people who make up our community. He had a rare ability to navigate complex issues with clarity and advocate for what’s right with humility and heart.
At GPS 2025, we were proud to honor John with a special award of recognition for his dedication and tireless service. He will be truly missed.
