Course: Compounding Fluoroelastomers
April 30, 2026; 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET
CEUs: 0.38 (To receive the CEUs, attendees must attend the course live and promptly complete the survey evaluation after the course.)
Location: This course is available virtually only. It can be taken from the comfort of your home or office – remotely from any tablet, laptop or computer.
Course Overview: Fluoroelastomers are a specialized class of synthetic elastomers recognized for their exceptional resistance to heat chemicals and aggressive fluids when compared with conventional hydrocarbon-based elastomers. They are selected for applications where performance requirements exceed the limits of other elastomeric materials. This course provides a technically focused examination of fluoroelastomer chemistry properties processing behavior and end use performance. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of material selection formulation considerations and manufacturing challenges along with current regulatory considerations including the evolving impact of PFAS on fluoroelastomer materials and applications.
Course Content:
- definition and classification of fluoroelastomers within the elastomer family
- performance differences between fluoroelastomers and other elastomer classes
- major types of fluoroelastomers and their chemical and performance distinctions
- compounding ingredients and formulation considerations specific to Fluoroelastomers
- processing and physical property relationships
- molding methods and processing challenges
- impact of PFAS regulations on fluoroelastomer materials and manufacturing
- technical importance of fluoroelastomers in critical applications
- troubleshooting formulation processing and performance issues
- representative industrial applications
Who Should Take This Course: The course is designed for professionals with a technical background seeking to strengthen their expertise in high performance elastomer systems.
Price: $395 Members / $495 Non-members / Free for Undergraduate Student Members / $50 for Other Student Members
Instructor: William Stahl
Bio: William Stahl retired in March of 2023 after forty-five years in the rubber industry with a primary focus on the compounding and application of fluoroelastomer polymers. His career emphasized formulation development material selection and problem solving for demanding applications. He has instructed numerous technical courses for Rubber Division ACS including Introduction to Compounding Mixing and Testing Compounding Fluoroelastomers and Selecting Elastomers for Sealing Applications. He currently serves as a consultant with WMS Technologies LLC in Norton Ohio bringing decades of applied experience to both industry projects and technical education.
