Rubber Band Contest
For Future Inventors
The Rubber Band Contest was started in 2008 by a joint venture between the University of Akron's Akron Global Polymer Academy and Rubber Division, ACS. The first contest's award ceremony was held in 2009. It draws nearly 400 middle school student entrants from 17 states.
Are you ready to stretch your imagination? This contest challenges students in grades 5-8 to design and create a working invention that incorporates at least 1 rubber band. Students can compete in one of two separate divisions of competition: 1) Arts & Leisure; or 2) Science & Engineering. The first place winner in each division receives $2000.00, while the runner-up in each division receives $1000.00. The four remaining finalists in each division—who are not a first place winner or runner-up— receives $50.00. The top four schools with the most student entries each receive a $250 donation.
