Webinar: Recovered Carbon Black (rCB) – Can It Replace Virgin Black?

August 4, 2027 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

August 4, 2027; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET

Webinar Overview: Recovered carbon black, produced by pyrolysis of end-of-life tires, is one of the most talked-about sustainable materials in rubber, and one of the most misunderstood. Customers and sustainability goals are pushing compounders to add recycled content, but questions about consistency, ash and impurities, and performance compared with virgin grades keep many companies on the sidelines. This webinar takes a practical, data-driven look at where rCB performs well today, where it falls short, and how to evaluate it in your own compounds.

Webinar Content:

  • How rCB is made and how it differs from virgin carbon black, including surface activity, ash content and impurities
  • How rCB compares with N550 and other grades in real compounds
  • Effects on processing, cure, reinforcement and fatigue performance
  • Approaches to reducing impurities and improving batch-to-batch consistency
  • Using blends and partial replacement to balance cost, performance and recycled content
  • Current ASTM test methods and how to qualify an rCB supplier

Audience: Compounders, chemists, purchasing and sustainability leads evaluating recovered carbon black for tire or industrial rubber products. Some technical background is helpful.

Instructor: Dave Abdallah, Abdallah Consulting

Bio: Dave founded Abdallah Consulting in July 2024 to grow the tire pyrolysis industry. Dave’s method is to enable, educate and advise clients to help them avoid the common mistakes that have caused the failure of many ventures in recent years.

Dave has a BS Chemistry from the University of Akron and an MBA from Kent State University. His professional background began with a 5-year role as a synthetic organic chemist. Afterwards he began a 21-year career at Bridgestone Americas where he earned 6 patents, developed new materials and compound technology, acquired non-pneumatic tire technology, performed special assignments to improve customer solutions related to tire recycling and lead the Americas-based manufacturing process engineering department. In addition, Dave conceived and lead the formation of a joint venture project that became the Delta-Energy Group, the world’s first commercial-scale tire pyrolysis manufacturer selling major volumes to the world’s largest (at the time) tire manufacturer.

After Bridgestone, he served as head of sales at Delta-Energy and Bolder Industries. More recently he served as Director of Global Key Accounts for Thomas Swan, a manufacturer and distributor of specialty chemicals with a wide range of customers including those from tire and rubber segments.
