Course: Processing & Testing of Rubber

Location: This course is available virtually only and can be taken from the comfort of your home or office – remotely from any tablet, laptop or computer.

Course Overview: Mixing, extrusion, molding and testing is the focus of this course. Different mixer types and rotors types will be reviewed. Extrusion, salt batch and other processing will be discussed along with how to troubleshoot processing problems. Compression, injection, transfer molding and other molding will be covered. The testing section includes quality control and more details on most rubber tests.

Instructors: Paul Merda & Nicki Hershberger; Akron Rubber Development Laboratory

Paul currently serves as the Education Coordinator & Technical Advisor at Akron Rubber Development Laboratory (ARDL). His Previous Experience: Lab Technician, Adhesives Chemist, High School Science Teacher, Handy Man. His Education: BS Chemistry, Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Paul’s Experience: 18 years as a Technician/Chemist, 13 years high school science teaching.

Nicki Hershberger is the Compound Development Manager & a Senior Technical Advisor at Akron Rubber Development Laboratory (ARDL). She has been in the rubber industry for around 25 years and has experience working in custom mixing and compound development for extrusion, molding, and autoclaved applications.
