Course: Introduction to Compounding, Mixing & Testing

July 31 @ 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm

CEUs: 0.38 (To receive the CEUs, attendees must attend the course live and promptly complete the survey evaluation after the course.)

Pizza lunch at 12:30 for in-person attendees; Course starts at 1 p.m.

Location: This course is available virtually and also in-person at the Elastomer Training Center at the Rubber Division, ACS Office – 306 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd., Akron, OH 44333.

Course Overview: This course will present an overview of compounding elastomers. Topics include elastomers, fillers, oils/plasticizers and curing agents. Also discussed will be the mixing and testing of elastomer compounds and how to select an elastomer for a given application.
The mixing portion of this course also covers several topics dealing with Internal Mixers and Mixing Parameters (the things that affect rubber mixing). It starts off with a brief history of mixing equipment, goes into what an internal mixer is and some of its different options, covers the different types of rotors and how they differ, then spends a great deal of time looking into the influence of various mechanical and non-mechanical parameters and the effects they have on rubber mixing, production uniformity, wear and damage, and the mixing process. It finishes with actual examples of problems encountered in the field, what caused them and how they were resolved.

Learning Objectives:
– provide overview of practical aspects of compounding elastomers
– provide help in selecting elastomers
– provide opportunities for one-on-one dialog beyond general class interest
– utilize class expertise as a resource
– provide references/contacts for you to use as future questions arise

Lunch is included for in-person attendees.

Price: $250 Member / $350 Non-member / Free for Undergraduate Student Members / $50 for Other Student Members
