Student Outreach Program

Our Student Outreach Program includes the following projects:

Experience Elastomers Student Outreach Program

This is a program we feature during our annual International Elastomer Conference. The program is aimed at introducing our industry to high school students and igniting interest in our great industry. Students are invited to enjoy a day of STEM‐based rubber learning. The students hear from people in the rubber industry about the careers and opportunities available. Students split into groups and conduct hands on experiments and learning activities. The rubber properties discussed are physical, chemical, thermal expansion, network, density, friction and motion. Students then walk the expo floor in teams and gather information from exhibiting companies to bring back and discuss at a forum in the student area. The event concludes with a complimentary lunch for the students and staff, along with career pathway presentations from industry professionals and college students.

We also bring the Experience Elastomers Student Program to schools, working with teachers to implement hands-on experiments and elastomer education into the classroom. Programs can be customized per school. Contact Heather Maimone at hmaimone@rubber.org to discuss offering this program at your school.

Student Support Initiative at IEC

We work to extend our outreach to Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Engineering students who have expressed an interest in the polymer industry; however, don’t have polymer focused programming at their college/university. We need to make all aspects of our industry known to these students and there is no better way to achieve that than to bring several of them to our International Elastomer Conference. This is a great opportunity for these students to gain more knowledge specific to our industry, make connections, and show them how amazing our industry is and why they should be a part of it! Donations to this initiative allow us to select qualifying students to attend IEC at no cost to them - transportation, housing, meals and registration. Email gc@rubber.org if you are interested in donating to this initiative.

Rubber Division, ACS Student Chapter Rubber Training Courses

Training courses in rubber compounding, testing, curing, and mixing are offered to our Student Chapters free of charge to students and their chapter advisor. This program is beneficial to give students training on necessary rubber manufacturing before they are in the industry looking for careers. Doubled with their internships, these training courses assist students in knowing more about the industry and making their transition from university or tech school to the rubber industry easier.

Is supporting growth of our industry through outreach to a new generation important to your company? Truly make an impact, while also increasing your visibility with rubber and polymer professionals from all rubber disciplines at the same time, by becoming a sponsor of our Student Outreach Program. Your sponsorship investment will be specifically used towards our efforts and programs related to the Student Outreach Program. Click here to view our Student Outreach Program sponsorship opportunities.
