The Greater Akron Chamber has initiated the effort to investigate areas of opportunity and shared challenges that face the polymer industry. The Greater Akron region has a long history of polymer excellence that has evolved from the early manufacturing of tires to the growth of the polymer industry cluster that drives much of the local economy today. Along with the Greater Akron Chamber, the City of Akron, County of Summit, GAR Foundation, Team NEO, and The University of Akron have committed to identifying catalytic opportunities in the polymer industry. Surendra Chawla, Senior Director at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., has been retained as leader of the project. The Polymer Industry Advisory Council will function in an advisory role to help identify opportunities, articulate challenges, and connect the dots.
