We are pleased to announce that Lakisha Miller-Barclay has been selected as the successor of Ed Miller, executive director, upon his retirement in January.

Ed Miller has served as the Rubber Division, ACS executive director for almost 19 years and has been the only individual to hold this position. He will be retiring on January 15, 2020, which is his 19th anniversary with the organization. A hiring committee was formed to search for Ed’s successor. The position was posted, interviews were held, and it was determined that Lakisha was the best candidate for the position. A motion was then put through the organization’s Steering Committee to make Lakisha Miller-Barclay the Rubber Division, ACS executive director effective January 1, 2020. “I am very pleased with the Steering Committee’s selection of Lakisha to succeed me as executive director. She is professional, personable and extremely knowledgeable in Rubber Division operations and future focus,” says Ed Miller. “Her expertise in finance, legal and human resources will be an asset in her new position. Lakisha is well-liked by the Rubber Division team and I am fully confident in her ability to lead the Division into the next evolution of services and programs for our members and the rubber industry.”

“I thank the Steering Committee for this incredible opportunity, and I look forward to working with the board and the dynamic team within Rubber Division, ACS as we continue to evolve into the future,” says Lakisha. “I am also grateful to Ed for providing a foundation and framework under his 19 years of executive leadership. His willingness to teach and mentor me has been invaluable, as well.”

Lakisha joined Rubber Division, ACS in July 2007. She currently holds the position of director of finance & administration. She earned her B.S. in Accounting from The University of Akron. Lakisha’s background includes Summit County Children Services, the U.S. Air Force, and owning and operating her own tax and accounting service where she specialized in nonprofits. She currently sits on the boards of Harmony House, Inc. and Greenleaf Family Center, and serves as the president of Leadership Akron’s Diversity on Board Class Three. In her role as director of finance & administration, Lakisha’s responsibilities include the day-to-day financial management of Rubber Division, ACS, as well as long-term planning and reporting. She serves as a valuable resource to the staff and goes above and beyond taking on additional responsibilities in the office, including managing I.T. and Human Resources. She also serves as staff liaison to the Finance & Budget and Business Affairs Committees. Lakisha has been working to achieve Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification and expects to receive this credential in December. The Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is the marker of a committed association professional who has demonstrated the wide range of knowledge essential to manage an association in today’s challenging environment.

“As 2019 chair of Rubber Division, ACS, I have had an opportunity to work with Lakisha over the years, through my positions held from assistant treasurer up to chair,” says Mike Morrow. “In addition to being well-liked by the staff, she has been wonderful to work with. Lakisha possesses a multitude of skills, a consummate knowledge and history of Rubber Division, and a wealth of experience that will allow her to continue to build our foundation and grow our existing and new programs into the next generation.”
