Edward L. Miller, MSCE, MBA, PE - Executive Director
Ed was President and CEO of the Asphalt Institute prior to becoming the Rubber Division's first Executive Director and an officer of the Division. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the US Air Force Academy, MS in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico, MBA from the University of Oklahoma and is a registered Professional Engineer. He retired from the Air Force in 1992 after a 20-year career in engineering, as well as teaching graduate school as an Assistant Professor and consulting in 15 countries throughout Asia, Europe, Middle East and South America. Ed has been active in community work since graduating college, such as running an orphanage in South Korea, serving as board chair for developing homes for abused and unwanted children in Kentucky, serving on the advisory board for an at risk elementary school in Kentucky, teaching under-privileged children how to read, teaching Ohio fourth graders about the earth and running a cross-country training camp for various high schools. Within the Rubber Division, Ed is responsible for providing daily operational leadership, as well as serving as a spokesperson, developing partnerships with other organizations and maintaining good communications with the Executive Committee, Rubber Groups and the American Chemical Society. Ed is the staff liaison to the Steering, Executive, Nominating, Science & Technology Awards, Strategic Partnership and Subdivision Advisory Committees.
Melanie Avdeyev - Exposition & Meetings Assistant
Melanie joined the Division in June 2006. She came to us with five years of experience assisting the Executive Director of a non-profit association. Melanie is a valuable resource and is well diverse in areas of Rubber Division, ACS having held the positions of Meetings Manager, Exposition & Futures Sites Manager, Meetings & Executive Assistant, and her current position of Exposition & Meetings Assistant. In this role, Melanie assists and supports our Exposition & Meetings Manager. Melanie supports all meeting logistics from planning through execution. These include providing space for meeting function rooms, social events and other activities held at Rubber Division, ACS meetings and events. She also supports the Exposition & Meetings Manager in all logistics for the exposition, which include coordinating show production of our expositions and managing the logistics of registration and housing for all meetings. Melanie produces and maintains the various items of recognition for S&T awards and many other functions as well.
Lakisha Barclay - Accounting Manager
Lakisha joined Rubber Division, ACS in July 2007. Her background includes Summit County Children Services, the U.S. Air Force, and owning and operating her own tax and accounting service. Lakisha earned her B.S. in Accounting from The University of Akron. In her role as Accounting Manager, Lakisha’s responsibilities include the day-to-day financial management of the Rubber Division, as well as long-term planning and reporting. Lakisha serves as a valuable resource to our staff, as she goes above and beyond taking on additional responsibilities in our office, including helping manage I.T. and Human Resources. She is the staff liaison to the Finance & Budget and Business Affairs Committees.
Beth Berkheimer, CMP, CEM - Exposition & Meetings Manager
Beth joined Rubber Division, ACS in July of 2009, as a Certified Meeting Professional with 20 years of experience at GOJO Industries, Inc., most recently as Meeting Planner. In 2013, she achieved the Certified in Exhibition Management designation. Her CEM symbolizes a mark of excellence within the exhibitions and events industry. Beth’s position as Exposition & Meetings Manager at the Rubber Division, ACS includes responsibilities of researching, visiting and negotiating future meeting sites; including hotel, convention centers, Convention & Visitors Bureaus and other localities providing space for meeting function rooms, social events and other activities held at Rubber Division, ACS meetings and specialty conferences. Beth negotiates all contracts for all facilities and service providers. She manages the logistics for the Spring & Fall Meetings to include the Science & Technology Awards Banquet, Welcome Reception, Chair’s Reception, registration and other logistics. She is also responsible for the development, management and production of the annual Rubber Division, ACS expo, including exhibit space sales. Beth is the staff liaison to the Exhibits & Future Sites Committee.
Chuck Brady - Science Librarian
Chuck joined Rubber Division, ACS as the Science Librarian in April 2011. His background includes 15 years supporting scientific research and business intelligence gathering in the library at the National Geographic Society. Chuck earned his Masters Degree in Library & Information Science from Kent State University in 2008. After Graduate school he interned with the Lubrizol Advanced Materials corporate library. Chuck has also worked for the Akron-Summit County Public Library system. As manager of the John H. Gifford Memorial Library, Chuck manages technical meeting papers sales and archives Rubber Division, ACS publications and historical materials. He provides in-depth literature searches and is available to answer technical, business and rubber industry related queries from Division members and the public. Chuck also manages all aspects of the Rubber Chemistry and Technology journal and serves as the staff liaison to the Best Paper, Editorial Board, and History Committees.
Gretchen Cermak - Marketing Manager
Gretchen joined Rubber Division, ACS in March 2012. She spent the prior 11 years as Marketing Manager at Hyatt Regency Chicago, managing the day-to-day marketing and public relations for the 2,019-room hotel and conference destination. Her variety of marketing and public relations skills and experience, in addition to her knowledge of the meetings and events world from the host side, proves beneficial as we continue to promote Rubber Division, ACS as the valuable resource we are to the elastomeric community. As the Rubber Division's Marketing Manager, Gretchen facilitates and manages all marketing and promotional programs for the Rubber Division, including branding, advertising, communications and public relations. She is also responsible for the sponsorship programs, online career center, email marketing, website marketing, social media marketing and meeting notices, as well as the Show Dailies, Show Planners and Show Guides. Gretchen serves as the staff liaison to the Marketing Committee.
Gabrielle M. Daniel - Executive Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director & Registration Coordinator
Gabrielle M. Daniel joined Rubber Division, ACS in August 2012 as a Registration Assistant. She has since held the positions of Education Assistant and Student Office Assistant, and currently holds the positions of Executive Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director and Registration Coordinator. Gabrielle’s variety of experience and management level skills, much gained through her co-ownership of a tax and accounting service in the Akron, OH area, provide a strong foundation as she handles all day-to-day office operations and oversees all aspects of registration for our spring and fall meetings. Gabrielle’s extensive experience in customer service and administration, as well as her strong organization and clerical skills, keeps our office running and makes our registration processes successful. Gabrielle is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Akron in Human Resources Management.
Heather Maimone, MBA - Membership Manager
Heather Maimone joined Rubber Division, ACS part time in February 2011. She also works as Executive Assistant at Electric Impulse Communications part time. Prior to this, Heather was the Business Manager at Integrated Surgical Solutions, a subsidiary of Abbott Labs. She graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Business Administration and summa cum laude with an MBA at Kent State University. Heather is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, National Association of Professional Women and the Young Professionals Network. She also has over 5 years of experience managing an inbound and outbound call center, and over 10 years of management experience. As the Membership Manager, Heather is responsible for facilitating and managing the Division membership recruitment and retention programs, including maintaining the membership database and directories, handling all logistics for membership renewals, managing the corporate membership program, promoting new memberships, developing membership marketing programs and working closely with the local rubber groups and affiliated technical organizations. She also serves as the staff liaison to the Membership, 25-Year Club, and Service Awards Committees.
Linda McClure - Technical & Student Programs Manager
Linda joined Rubber Division, ACS in August 2002. Prior to that, she was the Office Manager, supported the sales staff and tracked orders for the Continental Carbon Company. Linda held several positions during eight years at GenCorp in the departments of Human Resources, Administrative Services and IT, and she worked as Assistant to the Director of Employee Benefits. Linda began at Rubber Division, ACS as Receptionist and Assistant to the Executive Director. Since then, she has worked as Assistant to the RCT Editor and served as Membership Manager for three years. In her current role of Technical & Student Programs Manager, Linda is responsible for management of the technical meetings, student colloquium, student poster session and job fair that take place each year. Linda is the staff liaison to the Program Planning and Student Affairs Committees.
Nicole Neila - Training & Development Assistant
Nicole joined Rubber Division, ACS in January 2016. In addition to working at the Division part time she is a licensed real estate agent for Howard Hanna in Green, OH. Nicole received her Bachelors in Adult Education from The University of Akron in December 2011. She attended college at Youngstown State University where she was a college athlete. Nicole has been a women’s basketball coach for 10 years at Manchester High School where she also was a substitute teacher. Nicole brings a varied background in education to her work at the Division and is a welcomed asset with the new outreach programs being developed and fine-tuned. She also serves as the backup staff liaison to the Education & Publications, Student Affairs and Scholarship Committees.
Christie L. Robinson, M.Ed. - Training & Development Director
Christie joined Rubber Division, ACS in February 2006 as the Education & Publications Manager. After her active duty enlistment in the U.S. Navy she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Connecticut, in 2001. Christie continued on with her graduate studies while teaching high school English and as a Curriculum Specialist at the U.S. Navy Combat Systems School in Mayport, Florida. Her Masters in Education is in Secondary Education, grades 6-12 and Adult Learning with a specialization in English and was received in 2005 from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Christie joined Sigma Alpha Lambda, a National Leadership & Honors Organization, through the University of North Florida and graduated magna cum laude. Christie was promoted to the Training & Development Director for Rubber Division, ACS in 2015. Christie is responsible for facilitating and managing all on-site training, online courses, webinars, scholarships, publications and Student Chapters. In addition, she manages the Student Outreach Program that provides rubber education and tours to science classrooms in a 6-12 setting in hopes of expanding our industry and getting the younger generations interested. Additionally, she is the staff liaison to the Education and Publications, Student Affairs and Scholarship Committees.
