Our Anti-Trust Statement

The Rubber Division, ACS, is a professional society of members who function as individuals and not as agents or representatives of any organization with which they may be associated. It is the strict policy of the Division, in all its meetings, to adhere to its objective to promote the education, professional growth and betterment of those individuals associated with the rubber and associated industries. This policy is essential to avoid violating federal and state antitrust laws. It is the policy of the Rubber Division and its members not to: (1) illegally agree or conspire to take any action that constitutes price fixing, or to discuss, consider or debate prices and production costs, production targets, market allocation or division; (2) illegally agree or conspire to take action or engage in discussion relating to the boycott, refusal to deal with, or exclusion of competitors; (3) illegally agree or conspire to improperly set or discuss standards or codes or ethics that unreasonably inhibit or restrict competition; and (4) not to engage in or discuss any other subject prohibited by the antitrust laws. If there are any violations of this policy, the offending member will be ruled out of order immediately and appropriately disciplined if necessary, and any action taken in violation of this policy immediately will be null and void, and a record minute will be made to that effect.

Interesting Rubber Division Facts

  1. The Rubber Division originated as the India Rubber Section of The American Chemical Society in 1909, achieving Division status in 1919 and incorporating in 1963. The Rubber Division is one of 34 divisions of the American Chemical Society. It has been headquartered in Akron, Ohio since 1909.
  2. The Rubber Division is composed of 19 Subdivisions called Rubber Groups located throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Division has increased its outreach via affiliations with three technical organizations (Canadian Society of Chemistry, Indian Rubber Institute and Brazilian Association of Rubber Technology) and continues to pursue new opportunities worldwide. Additionally the Division supports environmental stewardship via the Rubber Recycling Topical Group.
  3. The Rubber Division has published one of the most highly respected and cited rubber science journals since 1928 - Rubber Chemistry and Technology.
  4. The Rubber Division sponsors the biennial Rubber Expo and Rubber Mini-Expo. The Expo attracts over 5,000 visitors and exhibitors per year worldwide and the Mini-Expo attracts over 2,000 visitors and exhibitors.
  5. The Rubber Division maintains a one-of-the-kind library devoted to rubber and polymer science. The John H. Gifford Library is located on The University of Akron campus and contains one of the largest collections of rubber related material in the world.
  6. The Rubber Division supports scholarship at the collegiate and professional level. The Division annually awards over $12,000 in scholarships to students and those currently working in the rubber industry. The Division has student chapters at colleges in the United States including Ferris State, Clemson University and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
  7. The Rubber Division serves as a global resource in education, science, technology and business related information and programs.
  8. The Rubber Division serves as a focal point for interaction and networking opportunities as well as the introduction of new technologies within the rubber and plastics industries, through its expositions, specialty conferences and technical meetings.
  9. The Rubber Division awards the Charles Goodyear Medal to individuals that have made significant contributions to the field of rubber science and technology throughout their lifetime. This award plus five other prestigious rubber science and technology awards are presented annually at a Science and Technology Awards Ceremony.
  10. The Rubber Division jointly sponsors the International Rubber Science Hall of Fame with The Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science at The University of Akron. This includes an award ceremony and an educational symposium honoring the awardee.
